Should teachers blog??

There was an article in yesterday's ST (1st Oct 06) about whether teachers should blog. Hmm... what is your response to this?

My initial response was "What kind of question is this?" - are we depriving some professions of their space and rights of speech - even through writing - just because they are in a particular profession.

Just because teachers are teachers, it doesn't mean that they don't have a life of their own ... it doesn't mean they should be looked upon more strictly than anybody else (I mean, yes, it's true in one sense that they ought to be careful with their ways and behavior) ... it doesn't mean their freedom and space to ventilate should be so stricted ...

My personal conviction is that whatever we do, irregardless of what profession we are in, it is our personal responsibility to ensure that what we say or do don't hurt another person ... don't create possible conflicts or sow discord, etc. Of course, even if we need to ventilate and air our frustrations, there is a "civilised" way of doing it too. After all, if we are posting entries in a www, the least we want is to get caught for causing controversies, or stumbling another person who's reading what you are writing.

When I created this blog, I did so with the intention that this is solely for reflections, testimonies, songs, poems, etc - all for the purpose of making us ponder through some things we often took for granted, as well as for testifying to who God is and His goodness to us.

I do invite my students to visit this blog too - and I guess because I know some students will be reading what I'm writing, that I will always remind myself to exercise caution and discretion when I blog (on top of not becoming a stumbling block to another person who's reading what I'm writing). Well, thankfully, those who had visited my blog had found some articles thought-provoking and eye-opening with regard to certain issues in life, and I'm thankful enough for that that God can use what I've written to just encourage or remind another brother or sister-in-Christ about Himself and things in life.

Should teachers blog? Well, if it can help someone mantain sanity in life through writing as a means to ventilate bottled up frustrations, why put a stop to that space and infringe on this rights? If it can be used as a tool of construction (teaching and educating, etc) and not tearing down, why stop them?

This is strictly my own views and comments - I won't restrict your rights to disagree =)
