Interesting ... "education" in marketplace
Do you think that learning only takes place in classrooms, schools, learning institutions? Obviously not!
I was pleasantly amused at how a mother carrying a young child (he's probably 2 or 3 at most?) stood beside a stall selling curry powder and teaching the child as they watched the movement of the stall owner. You could hear her teaching the child, "Look, that's chilli paste ... that's garlic paste ... uncle's putting in onion paste now ... and that's curry powder ... and see, uncle's putting in curry leaves." - an interesting example of "mobile" education and learning - in the marketplace =)
It began to dawn on me: why are we usually not in the "learning mode" whenever we are out of the classrooms, etc? Have we been so conditioned to learning in certain environment and settings that we "limit" God to the ways He can teach us through ordinary situations and unexpected places? No wonder Jesus lamented that though we have eyes to see, yet we do not see; though ears to hear, yet do not hear or understand.
It brings to reminder what one of my lecturer reminded us - that God speaks in ordinary situations and through simple means - through movies, nature, people around, etc.
Open your eyes and your ears to see, hear and learn - every place is a learning institution of God, to us.
