Green-eye monsters

Green-eye monsters

Haha, it feels good to be an inspiration to so many people =) ... classmates who were "inspired" to make an effort to find opportunities for fellowship over coffee time after reading one of my entry ... my pal who now gets "panicky" when she knew I've completed a number of assignments ahead of her (tsk tsk) ... one of my girls who got "inspired" to create a blog (after deleting her old one) with a blog address that bears similar features with mine *wink* ... entries from her blog which now shows much wisdom, sense and maturity - heehee, not that your previous ones don't have that, but what you are writing now is just so different - you knew it too, right? *SMILE*

And what I'm writing today was actually an inspiration from her =) In a nutshell, it was her reflection written in her blog how mankind are less than contented when we should have been so. It is so true that somehow the nature of being envious and jealous are so much a part of human. Isn't it true? To quote a few for us to ponder and think about ...

... When someone else gets better grade than you in an assignment, test or exam, though we often don't show it, but there's envy and jealousy of that person (yup, that happened to me too!)

... When someone else gets a better job offer or more blessings than you had received, on one hand you rejoice for them, yet on the other there's traces of envy and jealousy - "God, why are you so unfair?" we sometimes asked. Isn't it?

... When someone else gets promoted to the position we've been eyeing for, our eyes turned green.

Somehow, the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side ...
- The singles are envious of those who are married; and the married are envious of those who are single

- Those who had no opportunities to travel on working trips are envious of those who had the chance; while those who travel often hopes to travel lesser so that their routine and schedule can be less upsetting

- Those who stay in smaller houses (or drive smaller cars, or go for simpler holidays, etc, etc) hoped to have a chance to reside in big, posh homes; while those who stay in big houses struggle to make ends meet and to pay off loan, hoping that life can be simpler

- Those who have domestic helpers hoped that "how I wish I had your maid who's so good"; while those being envied probably don't cherish their share of blessing and hope they had someone else's "better" maid

Well, the list just goes on ... it will never end, because mankind is never a contented lot. Though a lot of us are not born with green eyes, but that green-eye remains deep seated inside of us, awaiting to glow in discontentment as we lament and compare our lot with others ...

1 Timothy 6:6-10 "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."

I believe to counter the problem of envy, jealousy, discontentment, etc - the only way is to learn to "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!" Compare yourself with others who have less, than those who have more - this way, we wouldn't feel that God is unfair to us. Instead of asking God "Why me?" when we encounter problems in life, why are we not asking God "Why me?" when He choose to shower blessings on us? Learn to cherish blessings and be content before they are taken away from us - whatever in life you have, give thanks!

I like what my student wrote in her blog (which I quote here):o)
"Begin the day with JOY
Live the day with LOVE
End the day with PEACE
And have HOPE in the LORD"

Incidentally, LOVE, JOY, PEACE and HOPE are the 4 platoons in our CCA =)
