Random thoughts
Random thoughts
Well, for lack of better title, and also not wanting to kill additional brain cells to generate a nice, catchy, cool title, I'll settle for "random thoughts" to write about a few things that happened in the week past and which struck some thoughts in me ...
On unpredictability
The weather over the past few days had been rather unpredictable. Rain seems to come without pre-warning, and fairly heavy as it starts off, unlike how it used to begin with the usual drizzle. I was on my way to pick sis from her office when I saw 3 ladies "squashing" themselves under a small brolly. I guess they were caught offguard and hence in that "pathetic" state as they try to flag a cab. It struck me about this issue of predictability then. It began to dawn on me what on earth are predictable and dependable? We hear of the effects of global warming in many countries, resulting in floods that swept right through the streets ... we hear of families turned rivals because of unsettled disputes ... we hear of people who fall prey (suddenly) to cardiac arrest ... and so on. Nothing except God and His love for us is truly predictable and dependable, isn't it?
On the power of words
I was (as usual) whining about some incidents in class and at school and some things which a friend said brought me a different perspective about how I should be handling the situation. In fact, it made me ponder that my reaction was because I was inconvenienced and I'm tried, rather than because the situation was truly unbearable. Thank God for friends around who dare to speak the truth to help me grow to be a better person.
On suitability of music pieces
For 2 occasions within a week, I find myself amused at what I hear (I mean, music pieces played) during chapel or church service. I was fairly tickled that the postlude on Friday chapel was more like a performance piece than a postlude kind of postlude. Then on Sunday during service when we were singing 2 of the hymns, the organist played some fanciful interlude in between the stanzas, and it was rather long for one of the hymn. It sets me thinking - the discipline of a musician on occasions like this - what is important, follow the notes in the piece, play something one feels like, or being used by the Lord to create a worship (NOT distracting) atmosphere.
On giving full concentration
Mum was cutting some mangoes that I bought from the supermart, and at the same time she was talking to me, and in a moment of slip, she cut herself (thank God it's a small cut). That sets me thinking again about how we need to give our full concentration whenever we are doing things. We live in a world where time is a precious commodity, where 24 hours seemed to be insufficient (ya, I'm feeling that already due to the chunks of reading), where people valued multi-tasking over singlemindedness. Ever wonder why Jesus wants us to love God with our heart, soul, mind and strength?
I certainly hope I'm not talking nonsense, but really jotting down some reflections amidst the things that happened in my everyday life, which I can trigger you to ponder on as well ...
