A good teacher makes learning FUN!
Learning is fun, more so when you have an inspiring teacher, someone who believes in his or her ministry as a teacher, and someone who teach not out of duty, but passion.
Out of the 5 subjects I'm taking this semester, I enjoy Dr MC's IBI class, and Dr T's Greek class. I'm always inspired by the insights I learnt from Dr MC whenever he begin class with a Bible passage - bringing out fresh revelation I had never quite noticed in familiar Bible passages. I love Dr T's class because she is so patient with us as we begin grasping and learning the new language - so systematic, so encouraging (smiley faces, stickers, etc - she had a BIG smiley face sticker which I ask if I could reserve ... haha).
This morning Dr MC began with passages from 1 Kings 9:1-9 and 11:1-10. These passages records briefly about Solomon's life, from someone who set his heart to follow God to someone who chose to form political alliance with different countries, marrying wives of different nationalities - perhaps for political and economical reasons for the kingdom.
Dr MC reminded us about the need to pray for our political leaders, especially when their decision can cause great impact to the nation and the structure of the country. If our political leaders' concern is merely for economy, then in no time, the country will be setting itself for to see morals degenerating, social problems, etc. He also reminded us that no one who loved the Lord will choose deliberately to backslide. Backsliding occurs slowly, subtly and surely - especially when one allows the inclusion of little things along the way to cloud one's love and focus on God - it's just moving a circle to include the dot that is outside it ... first 1 dot, then when 1 is included, we find the next one outside the circle, and gradually we begin to include more and more dots which cloud and pollute the once pure circle ...
Dr MC also had doses of jokes and wits injected during the lesson. He reminded us about being careful with the meaning of words when we do our observation, interperation and application of the text. One of the common word study fallacy includes root fallacy which has to do with the etymology of the word - what has "butterfly" and "butter fly" got to do with each other? We ought to be careful when doing word study and when studying the meaning of words that appear in Scripture text.
I'm thankful for good and inspiring teachers =) William Arthur Ward wrote:
And thank God for sending angels who had been affirming me in my role as the class rep, and for helping me look at study from a different perspective. Since you chose to remain anonymous, I shall respect that decision but whoever you are that commented and encouraged me in one of the post - I would like you to know that I really appreciate that little note =) Yes, thank God our salvation is not based on how many "A"s we received. I'll do what I can to the best of my ability and leave the rest to the good Lord =)
