My favourite thing is to serve God
My favourite thing is to serve God
This simple statement was said by a 11 yr-old visually impaired girl, Ritchell Lim from Australia. She was invited to minister to the congregation at my church Christmas Eve service. Ritchell was born pre-mature (at 30 weeks), weighed only about 1kg plus and only about 35cm long. When she was born, her doctor only gave her a 5% chance of survival, and when her father sent her to another hospital to treat her, she was placed in an incubator for about 2.5 months, which resulted in her eyesight being lost.
Though visually impaired, Ritchell had a very positive attitude towards life and is extremely sensitive towards God. She started singing to the Lord at 3 years old and began composing songs at the age of 6 - both lyrics and music. She plays the keyboard very beautifully too!
When Ritchell was sharing about her life with God, she said this simple yet thought-provoking statement, "My favourite thing is to serve God." I was wondering at the moment I heard her words ... "How often we "dread" to serve God when it gets a bit too much, or too tough." It's not unfamiliar to hear of people often taking breaks from serving God, as if serving God is a job and not a joy. Well, I'm not saying we shouldn't take breaks from ministry to ensure we don't get burn-out, but I think sometimes we think we are doing God a favor by serving Him, instead of seeing it as a privilege.
A 11 yr-old ... a visually impaired girl ... a girl who chose to sing and make music to the Lord to testify and glorify His Name - how most of us pale in comparison to the way she live her life in such a full manner ...
