The Christmas story
The Christmas story
After a few days of really sleeping and resting, I'm much better - anyway, went to the doc again to get another bout of medication - to make sure whatever residual virus gets cleared once and for all. WOW, this flu bug really got me down. While it's flooding outdoors because of the rain, I'm experiencing "flooding" due to the "leakage" in my nose too =) God must have forgotten to turn off the tap in heaven and my nose tap ... I'm almost ready to replace Rudolph to light Santa's sleigh *grin*
Anyway, was doing some reading since I can't be up and active doing much, and I came across this portion from "Everyday with Jesus" by Greg Laurie which makes me ponder a fair bit ...
"The Christmas story is far more profound than many of us may realize ... The stunning truth is, God designed the Christmas story to make provision for our sins and failures even before there was a you and me!" - Pg 5
I guess for most of us (me included), we are more swept by the commercials, shopping, carolling, nativity story, gift exchange, etc that begin to take place in early November, sounding the nearness of Christmas than the HEART of what Christmas is all about. When we remember Christmas, very often we think about the nativity story - Joseph & Mary, the wise men, the shepherd, the angels, the baby in a manger, king Herod ordering the killing of toddlers, etc. While we remember God's love manifest in the form of human, many times we failed to remember that this love began way back before we were born. We often take the birth of Jesus as THE time where we "see" God's love being made evident, but we forgot that God has loved us since the beginning of time, isn't it?
Am I talking sense? Anyway, I guess that's it for now for us to ponder and chew on as Christmas draws nearer and nearer. Let's not just celebrate the birth of Jesus, but the love of God which began and will lead on to eternity for mankind - and that's His heart - that ALL may know the Way, the Truth and the Life.
