Family

WOW, how time flies!! Didn't even realize I have not updated this blog since eons ... Well, the reasons for the long silence can be attributed to the busyness of attending to studies, as well as some personal matters at home. For the need of it, or to put it plainly, "no choice", we have to urgently look for a domestic helper within the timeframe of about a week. Many people have advised against getting transfer cases, but with us being hard pressed for time, and the urgency of it, we had no choice but to take whatever maids that are available at the agency we went to. Thankfully and fortunately, the Lord led us to Puji (I guess her name means "praise"??) who was sent back to the agency after 3 days by her previous employer because she cannot communicate very well in English, though she could understand English fairly.

Puji came about a week plus ago and during the initial few days, she was rather terrified - perhaps being traumatized by her experience with her immediate past employer. She was very careful, very diligent, very hardworking, taking initiative, etc, etc. I guess it must have been hard for her.

For our family (at least sis, mum and me), our principle in life has always been be real and sincere to those around us, even though they might be lower in status or rank as compared to us. Hence, whenever we have our meals, we always insist that Puji sit down and eat with us. Thus far she was fine, though I guess she must have been surprised by our invitation and our permission to allow her to dine with us.

On the evening of our reunion dinner, as usual, all my siblings + nephews and nieces came back (except eldest sis coz her mum-in-law had been back to her place this year) and when we were ready to sit down for our dinner, we asked Puji to join us. She was so shy and insisted on having her dinner after we all finish ours. Goodness, I guess by the time we had a great feast and a great time, it would have been 8.30pm or 9pm - I think she will be all jelly from hunger by then. Sis and myself insisted that she joined us and we told her that now that she's with our household, she's a part of the family. Moreover, she is all alone here in this little red dot, what other family warmth can she look forward to if our household treats her with coldness and harshness? In the end, Puji did joined us, but quickly ate whatever she has on her plate and hurried to carry on with her household chores.

We have been thankful for her - looking at how hardworking she is really blesses us. Her hands never stop - there isn't a minute where she stop, sat down and rest (except for meals) since she woke up at 6am every morning. It's rather amusing that we have to end up "chasing" her to sleep every night after she finishes her task at around 8.30pm or 9pm.

Well, mum said she hope that Puji will not change and become lazier or a chatterer with the other neighbors' domestic helps. To me, I believe in treating people with sincerity and I trust that Puji can feel the acceptance my family is giving to her. As much as God has blessed us with her, I pray that my family will be a blessing to her for the next 2 years with us.
