A simple offering to the Lord ...

Today, an inmate led worship. It was something she wanted to do - a last thing for her the other inmates and the Lord before she gets released in 2 days' time.

Well, given my background (training and experience) as a worship leader, I wouldn't say the worship leading was fantastic, but I believe the Lord sees the heart of His servants more than their skills.

This inmate chose very simple songs, all songs to reflect her heart of thanksgiving to the Lord and to encourage and remind the others to remain steadfast in Him. Her prayers were simple, her leading was simple, yet all she had to give was her excellence in simplicity to the Lord - and I believe that's all that matters to the Lord.

I've learnt a great deal from her - perhaps not in terms of practical skills, but her simplicity in her service to the Lord - something I need to re-learn over and over again. It's an irony, isn't it, especially when the more training and experience we get, or the more times we've been scheduled to do something in our church or ministry, we become more complacent or sinking into routine that we lost our first love in expressing simplicity to serve God. I've learnt from her this morning, and these inmates do have a great deal to teach us, only if we are open enough to hear what God wants to teach us through them ...
