Via Dolorosa
Via Dolorosa
This day in history is called Good Friday. What's so good about a Friday where the pain of death was witnessed, and the agony of an innocent man whose only crime was love captured the attention of people?
Good Friday wasn't good from the perspective of God - it was a day He had to bear the pain of rejecting His own son because of the sins laid upon Jesus' shoulders ... it was a day where God "lost" His son to death before He won Him back again through the resurrection. Good Friday wasn't good from the perspective of Jesus - the decision to face the cross was agonizing, something which you and I can never fully comprehend ... the whipping, the scorning, the shaming, the nailing, the tear in his flesh, the spilling of his blood - it wasn't anything good at all. Any man in his sane mind would never agree to be put through such agony, yet Jesus knew if He don't do it, humanity can never be redeemed and be restored to God.
Good Friday was probably good from the perspective of humanity - we are the ones who had everything to gain. Forgetful humanity who cried out "Hosanna" and the next moment "Crucify Him!" Sometimes humanity are really worse off as compared to animals where compassion is concerned ... Nature recognized the power of God's Son and submit to Him ... the animal kingdom recognized God's Son and yield to Him (an illustration from Pastor R in his sermon on Palm Sunday - an untrained donkey did not resist Jesus when He rode on her somewhat parallels to the fact the she recognized who Jesus was), yet humanity with all its given wisdom failed to comprehend who Jesus is - and it is exactly because of our sins and folly that Jesus knew He had to give Himself up to death so as to defeat it and restore humanity to God. Via Dolorosa - the way of suffering, the path of pain - trodded for you, and me.
What was the crime of Jesus when everybody declared Him innocent?? His only crime was LOVE - for you, and for me ...

Via Dolorosa (Sandy Patty)
Down the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem that day
The soldiers tried to clear the narrow street
But the crowd pressed in to see
The man condemned to die on calvary
He was bleeding from a beating, there were stripes upon his back
And he wore a crown of thorns upon his head
And he bore with every step
The scorn of those who cried out for his death..
Chorus
Down the Via Dolorosa called the way of suffering
Like a lamb came the Messiah, Christ the King
But He chose to walk that road out ofHis love for you and me
Down the Via Dolorosa, all the way to calvary.
Bridge
The blood that would cleanse the souls of all men
Made its way through the heart of Jerusalem.

God showed His passion and compassion for humanity, what's our response for what He has done?
