Jigsaw

Jigsaw

I love jigsaw puzzles. Don't ask me why, I just love it. I can put all the pieces together without even feeling the need to eat or sleep - just want to complete what I've started. That's why my mum's always very worried whenever she sees me taking out a box of jigsaw and begin to piece them together, haha.

I guess I love the challenge that the puzzle gives - the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when the entire picture comes alive right before your very eyes. Somehow it's very interesting to see how the different pieces fit together when the right fit is found.

Putting together the pieces also teaches me patience - it can be very frustrating trying to find the right pieces, but yet with the number of pieces still outstanding and waiting to be fitted rightly, it only calls for patience to put them together, piece by piece.

The other benefit I gather from jigsaw puzzle is the ability to differentiate shades of color which helps my eyes to be more sensitive to the differences - especially when there are trees, glacier, sea, sky - these are the toughest part in the entire jigsaw, yet differentiating the shades of colors helps me to identify which piece belongs to which part of the puzzle.

For me, life can also be likened to a jigsaw puzzle - for some of us, it may be a 500 piece puzzle, for some of us perhaps a 1000 piece puzzle. Each bit in our life is a little piece that fits into a big picture - the plan that God has for each individual. Some pieces are agonizingly difficult, some pieces are simply a breeze, some pieces are just so odd in shape it makes you wonder if they actually belong in the picture at all. But the interesting thing is that when these pieces begin to fall into the right places, the picture of God's plan for us begin to become clearer.

Maybe we feel that life can sometimes be unbearable or painful - that's where perhaps we see the odd shape pieces in sight. Take heart - there is a place where this pain will fit - it's not without reason and without purpose.

On a side note, though I love jigsaw puzzles greatly, don't give me anymore jigsaw puzzles as birthday presents - I still have a few boxes that are not pieced together yet - and I wonder when will I have the time to put them together amidst all my mountains of notes =(
